KNUST appoints Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson as new Vice-Chancellor

The Governing Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has appointed Professor Rita Akosua Dickson as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University.
Her appointment makes her the first woman to occupy the position of Vice-Chancellor in the University’s history. Her appointment, according to a statement issued by KUNST, is expected to take effect from August 1, 2020.
What else can we know about Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson?
Before her new appointment, Prof. (Mrs) Rita Akosua Dickson served as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the institution. Also, she served as the acting Vice-Chancellor in October 2018 when the then Vice-Chancellor Prof. Obiri Danso was asked to step aside temporarily, following students’ agitations and violence on the school’s campus.
Again, Prof. (Mrs) Dickson served as the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences before she was appointed the Pro-Vice-Chancellor.
Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from the university in 1994.
After that, she pursued graduate studies leading to the award of MPharm in Pharmacognosy in 1999 and was appointed a lecturer the following year in the Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, KNUST.
She also among other things, holds a PhD and a Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice (GCAP) from Kings College, London.
